Feeding formula with the proper consistency is vital to success.the consistency ,or ratio of dry formula to water in the mixed formula is expressed in percent solids.the requirement for water in the diet is higher for a hatchling than for an older chick.if the formula is too watery (low percent slids)the chick will not receive adequate nutrition and may become stunted or malnourished. If the formula is too concentrated(high percent solids)the chick can become dehydrated, the crop will empty slowly,or the chick may develop crop binding as it pulls moisture from the food in the crop.
> As a general rule,pretty bird handrearing formula can be prepared by mixing approximately 2 parts of water with I part pretty bird dry formula(parts are by volume)this will yield approximately 26 to 28% solids.keep in mind that volume measurements can be inaccurate if the dry formula is loose or packed during measuring. Pretty bird formulas normally appear thinner than many formulas because the digestive enzymes liquefy the formula.
> If this is the first time you are using pretty bird handrearing formula.or if you are switching from another type of formula,you should always check the percent solids in the formula as you prepare it. You should also check cach container you open before feeding. If you are troubleshooting digestive problems start by checking percent solids
> To calculate percent solids,you will need an accurate scale, preferably a digital gram scale,first,weigh your empty container. If your scale has a tare function,zero the scale with the empty container on it. Add any amount of dry formula you choose and record the weight (subtract the weight of the container if you don’t have a tare function) next,add hot water to reach the desired consistency, weigh this finished formula and rccord.now divide the largernumber (total weight). this will give you a decimal number. To convert the decimal to a percent,move the decimal two placesto the right.this is now the percentage of solids you have just mixed.
> Newly hatched chicks should be fed approximately 10-12%solids.chicks should be fed about every two hours during an 18 hour day.(some breeders also feed very young chichs through the night)
> From day 3 to day 6,feed 12 to 20%solids about 6-7 timesdaily
> From day7 to day10,feed 20 to 24% solids about 6 times daily
> From day10 until weaning ,feed approximately 24to28% solids
> Percent solids should be increased gradually. At 7 to 10 days of age ,many chicks can be fed 4 times daily and the consistency of the formula can stay the same from that point through weaning .smaller spcies may require more frequent feedings.
> Mixing instructions
> Important :mix fresh for each feeding.discard any leftover formula.do not save or reuse prior mixed formula.
> 1.wash hands thoroughly.
> 2.make sure all bowls and feeding utensils are clean and sanitized and a separate utensil should be used for each chick
> 3.mix formula sapproximately 2 parts water(bottled)with I part of dry formula.you will need to add more water for younger chicks.(see table below)
> 4.formula should be 100 to 108 degrees when fed . please remember to always check the temperature of the formula before feeding.formula that is fed too hot may cause severe crop burns.

> The chick should gain a significant of weight each day. (10 to20% of It’s own weight.) weigh the chick and record it’sweight before the first morning feeding .if the weight remains the same, watch the chick closely. Loss of weight indicates a problem (unless the chick has reached it’s peak weight and is near weaning) and should be investigated immediately by a veterinarian for evaluation of possible husbandry or health problems .be aware that an otherwise healthy chick may not gain weight if the formula is not being fed often enough and/or the formula being fed is mixed too thin.
> Feeding a formula that is too thick (too high percent solids) can result in dehydration . the chick will absorb all of the water out of the formula and will be left with a hard ball in the crop. Feeding a formula that is too watery (too low percent solids) may result in malnutrition and/or slow crop transit time.
> Some chicks can become dangerousil overweight if overfed or if they are fed a formula that is too high in fat for them. Obese chick should be fed less often or with lesser amounts of lower fat formulas .we have a special low fat formula designed specifically for amazons and large cockatoos .obese chichs may develop fatty liver or skeletal abnormalities .overweight chicks or chicks that are overfed often regurgitate

总的来说，小鸟的配方可以通过混合1份饲料和2份水配制而成（每份以量计算）。这样，固体物大约会占到26%到28%。紧记，如果在测量过程中干配料是散装的或是压缩的，体积的测量可以不那么精确。通常情况下，小鸟的配料会显得稀一些，那是因为消化酶会使其液化。

为了计算固体百分比，你需要一个精确的秤（天平），最好是电子的秤。首先，称一下空的容器，如果你的秤有去皮重的功能，当空容器在秤上时清零。加入一定量的配料记下重量（如果你的秤不带去皮重功能，需要减去容器的重量）。接下来，加入热水到想要得浓度，称一下此时的重量并记录。现在，把总重量分一下。这样就得到小数，为了将小数转化成百分比，保留两位小数。这就是你刚混合的固体物的百分比。
新孵化的小鸟需要喂10%~20%的固体。白天的18个小时里每两小时喂一次（有的饲养者也会在晚上喂刚刚孵化的小鸟）
第3天到第6天，喂12%~20%浓度的，每天大约6~7次
第7天到第10天，喂20%~24%浓度的，每天大约6次
从第10天一至到断奶，喂24%~28%浓度的
固体百分比要慢慢的增加。在7到10天大的时候，多数的小鸟可以每天喂4次且从此可以维持同一浓度直到断奶。小的时候要喂勤一点。
对于混合的说明：
重要的是：每餐必须是新配的。扔掉吃剩的配料。不要节省或再使用以前混合的配料。
1、认真的洗手。
2、确认所有的碗和器具都是干净的并经消毒。且每只小鸟有自己的器具
3、将大约2份水和1份干配料。给小一点的鸟要多加些水（详见下表）
4、喂的时候配料要在100度~108度。紧记，喂前一定要检查温度。如果温度太高会导致嗉囊严重烧伤。
5、小鸟要有规律的喂
6、每餐前嗉囊应几乎是空的，而且每24小时可以完全腾空，最好是在夜间。如果嗉囊通常不空，你应当：
A．检查固体百分比
B．检查孵化器温度来确认小鸟是不是太热或是太冷
C．让兽医检查一下看是否小鸟有细菌或真菌感染
