这种鸟体为绿色，脸颊和颈部为灰蓝色，公鸟颈部会长出一条灰蓝色的细窄条状羽毛，沿著蜡膜到眼睛有一条黑色羽毛，颈部有著一条很宽的黑色环状羽毛和一条很宽的粉红色环状羽毛；腹部黄绿色，外侧翅膀覆羽带有一块紫红色的羽毛；尾巴羽毛中间上方为绿底外加蓝绿色，尖端黄色；尾巴内侧黄色；鸟喙红色，尖端黄色；虹膜黄白色。母鸟的颈部没有黑色的和粉红色的环状羽毛，鸟体色较为黯淡，中间尾羽平均长度较公鸟短。目前已知的有5个亚种：主要种(Psittaculae。eupatria)、纳伯尼斯种(Psittaculae。nipalensis)、安达曼岛种(Psittaculae。magnirostris)、印度柏美斯种(Psittaculae。avensis)、赖耳斯种(Psittaculae。siamensis)。

      成鸟身长： 58公分，翼长189 -215毫米，尾长215- 355毫米。
      分布：印度南部北到海得拉巴、安得拉邦、斯里兰卡。
2、纳伯尼斯种(Psittaculae。nipalensis)
成鸟身长： 62公分，翼长200 -240毫米，尾长286- 328毫米。
      分布：阿富汗东部，巴基斯坦西部，中部和印度北部，尼泊尔，巴基斯坦东部，不丹和阿萨姆。
3、安达曼岛种(Psittaculae。magnirostris)
成鸟身长工： 60公分，翼长200 -225毫米，尾长250- 347毫米。
      分布：安达曼群岛。
4、印度柏美斯种(Psittaculae。avensis)
成鸟身长： 56公分，翼长179 -205毫米，尾长200- 298毫米。
      分布：越南，柬埔寨，老挝，北部和西部、泰国。
5、赖耳斯种(Psittaculae。siamensis)
成鸟身长： 58公分，翼长194 -220毫米，尾长281- 336毫米。
      分布： 在阿萨姆到阿默斯特、缅甸。

      Alexandrine Parakeet
      Description: Green; cheeks and nape washed faintly grey-blue; cocks
      often only have narrow stripe of grey-blue to nape; broad
      cheek-stripe and narrow line from cere to eye black; broad band to
      nape pink; abdomen yellowish-green; dark purple-red patch to
      wing-coverts; upperside of middle tail-feathers blue-green with
      green base and yellow tips, outer tail-feathers green; underside of
      tail yellow; bill red with yellow tip; iris yellowish-white; feet
      grey.
      Hen without black cheek-stripe and pink band to nape; plumage
      generally slightly duller; middle tail-feathers on average shorter.
      Immatures as hen, adult plumage develops at 18 months, completed by
      32 to 36 months.
      Length: 58 cm, wing length 189 - 215 mm, tail length 215 - 355 mm.
      Distribution: Southern India North to Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh; Sri
      Lanka.

      Description: As eupatria, but breast and abdomen feathers of both
      sexes with marked grey-white tinge; cheeks and nape suffused with
      blue; broad pink band to nape; larger.
      Length: 62 cm, wing length 200 - 240 mm, tail length 286 - 328 mm.
      Distribution: Eastern Afghanistan, Western Pakistan, Central and
      Northern India, Nepal, Eastern Pakistan, Bhutan and Assam.

      Andaman Alexandrine Parakeet
      Description: As eupatria, but breast and abdomen feathers in both
      sexes with grey-white tinge; broad pink band to nape; blue tinge to
      nape above pink band mostly very restricted, not occurring in some
      birds; shoulder patch lighter in many birds; bill larger and
      heavier; slightly larger.
      Length: 60 cm, wing length 200 - 225 mm, tail length 250 - 347 mm.

      Description: As eupatria, but back of head and nape washed pale
      blue, extending to crown in some birds; cheeks yellow-green; band to
      nape narrow and pinker; shoulder patch more reddish; slightly
      smaller; feet yellowish.
      Length: 56 cm, wing length 179 - 205 mm, tail length 200 - 298 mm.
      Distribution: Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, northern and western
      Thailand.
      5. Psittacula eupatria avensis (Kloss 1917)
      Burmese Alexandrine Parakeet
      Description: As eupatria, but top of head and nape yellowish-green;
      blue tinge resticted to cheeks and absent from nape; band to nape
      narrow and pinker.
      Length: 58 cm, wing length 194 - 220 mm, tail length 281 - 336 mm.
      Distribution: Cachar district in Assam to Amherst, Burma.
